Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah (BBBSU) is a non-profit organization that aims to ignite the potential of young people through one-to-one mentoring relationships. Through volunteer opportunities in Utah, there are various ways to help and support the organization. At BBBSU, our mission is fulfilled through the help of volunteers. Whether it be becoming a mentor, making monetary donations, or volunteering to help at a fundraising event, you can make a difference in a child’s life.

Volunteering as a Volunteer Mentor (Big Brother or Big Sister)

The organization focuses on creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships, which have been shown to have a powerful impact on the lives of young people. Adults are invited to apply to mentor youth ages 6-18. The mentorship pair called a ‘Match,’ consists of an adult volunteer mentor, a ‘Big,’ and a child or teen, called a ‘Little.’ Bigs must commit to at least one year of mentoring their Little. Throughout the year, matches frequently meet to participate in personal activities or events hosted by BBBSU.

If becoming a Big does not feel like the right fit for you, you can help support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah in other ways. Here are more volunteer opportunities in Utah with BBBSU:

More Ways to Help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah:

1.Donate Used Clothing/Household Items or Host a Clothing Drive

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah’s Donation Center is responsible for 30% of the organization’s annual revenue. By donating used clothes and household items, you help turn these items into funding to support mentoring programs. Donating gently-used clothing, shoes, accessories, household items, and electronics can help make a difference in the lives of children in the BBBSU program.

If you are interested in hosting a clothing drive, BBBSU has all the tools to help you set it up with your company, school, church, neighborhood, or club. They also partner with youth teams and clubs who may want to run a clothing drive as a fundraiser. Visit https://bbbsu.org/donate-clothing/ to learn more.

2. Support an Annual Fundraising Event

BBBSU holds three annual  fundraising events– Bowl For Kids’ Sake in the Winter, Golf Fore Kids’ Sake in the Summer, and the Big Night Out gala in the Fall. These events help raise funds to support BBBSU’s mission and allow individuals and organizations to show their support for the organization while having fun.

Attending or sponsoring one of these events is a great way to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah while having a good time. In addition, individuals can also participate in various ways, such as by forming a team or volunteering at the event.

3.Share Your Talents with Our Mentoring Matches

There are two ways you can contribute your talents to help our matches. First, you can schedule a one-time class or activity for our community-based mentoring matches. It can be anything you enjoy such as teaching a yoga class, a painting class, leading a canyon hike, and more. Second, you, your company, or your club can help host a party at one of our elementary school sites. For more details on leading an activity or hosting a party, click here.
