Big Jamie and Little Jinan were first matched in our Mentor2.0 high school-based mentoring program. Over the course of the school year, they became so close that they decided to become a community-based match. Now they go on outings in the community and attend the Mentor2.0 program events each month.

They have been on outings to Lagoon, gone out to dinner for each other’s birthdays and gone to the movies. “Every time we meet we get more confident and close, we are more both introverts, but now we talk non-stop when we are together,” said Jinan.

Jamie and Jinan also participated in our Big Night Out Gala Fashion Show. Big Jamie brought her little flowers and when they walked down the runway, and paused at the end she presented them to Jinan and they hugged. Jinan and Jamie were carefully matched based on their personalities and love of fashion. To see them walk in the Fashion Show at our Big Night Out Gala with our other matches check out our social media @bbbsutah.

“It’s nice to be there for someone as a mentor, but I have also learned a lot and gained a lot from this experience. Most importantly, I gained a friend out of it too. We will definitely stay together after we graduate from the program because we are more like family now.” – Big Jamie

At BBBSU, we carefully match each Big and Little to create the strongest matches possible. Jamie and Jinan are a perfect example of the type of matches we strive to create every day.
