Pride month is a designated month created to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and increase awareness and acceptance throughout the local community. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah, we strive to support our youth and community at this time as they are spreading love and acceptance. Here are some ways you can join in supporting them.

Attend a Pride Parade or Event

This is a great way to show your support. In the parade, you can meet many members of the LGBTQ+ community and make great friends. This is also a great place to find people to talk about what the LGBTQ+ community is and what other events and opportunities the community offers.

Become An Ally

Allyship comes from joining groups that support protecting and accepting LGBTQ+ members. Becoming an ally shows you will support and defend LGBTQ+ youth and the community. It is a way to create a safe space for Littles in the program.

Volunteer and Donate

By volunteering to help at LGBTQ+ promotional groups, volunteering to help run events, and volunteering to help mentor youth, you are helping support during pride month. Multiple volunteer opportunities in Utah can be found within the LGBTQ+ community and events. Donating is also a great way to do your part to fund the community so they can increase opportunities, protection, and organizations that allow for safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth.

Educate Yourself

By researching, learning, and pursuing understanding, you can show your support for the LGBTQ+ community. Becoming educated in the community and what they support is the first step to becoming an ally. It allows for broadening of perspective, understanding, and increased acceptance.

Support

You can show support through pride events, parades, alliances, volunteering, donating, and educating yourself. Each of these options helps the LGBTQ+ community take one step closer to finding safety in their community and the acceptance they deserve.
