Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the culture, heritage, history, and contribution of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the United States. The celebration runs from September 15th to October 15th each year. 

Hispanic Heritage month can be an excellent opportunity for youth to learn more about the different cultures that make up the United States and connect over shared traditions. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah is a non-profit organization offering volunteer opportunities in Utah for adults to become mentors, known as “Bigs,” and children known as “Littles.” Bigs and Littles are encouraged to celebrate important cultural celebrations, including Hispanic Heritage Month. Cooking Hispanic Dishes

Cooking delicious Hispanic foods is a great way to get the whole family involved in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

You could also decorate your home with colorful streamers and balloons, make homemade piñatas, or listen to traditional Hispanic dances and music.

Visit a Local Hispanic Cultural Center 

Local Hispanic cultural centers are excellent resources for learning about and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. These centers host events and activities open to the public.

Many cultural centers also have library resources on Hispanic History, traditions, and customs. Here you can read books and stories with your Little or look through pictures to better understand what Hispanic Heritage Month is all about.
