If you’re interested in volunteer opportunities in Utah, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Utah program could be right for you. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah focuses on one-on-one mentoring children ages 6-18. If you’re wondering how someone qualifies for the program, here’s a helpful guide to get you started.

What Are The Requirements?

Like most volunteer opportunities in Utah, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Utah program’s goal is to improve the lives of people in the community. To help meet that goal, “Bigs” need to be over the age of 18. Everyone is qualified with life experience to be a Big! No two volunteers look the same. We welcome all kinds of volunteers to mentor all types of children. You will learn more about the further requirements in the process of becoming a Big.

What Are My Responsibilities?

The process of becoming a Big can take some time, but to properly serve the children in the program, it’s essential to make sure any potential mentors understand the ins and outs of what’s expected of them. You’ll need to make a 12-month commitment to the child you’ll be mentoring, which means spending an average of 4 to 6 hours a month with your “Little,” so be prepared to visit them 2-4 times a month.

Like other volunteer opportunities in Utah, a compassionate and patient attitude is encouraged. While the program is meant to provide your trim with a better outlook on life, hopefully, you’ll come away with benefits from your experience as well.
