Having an additional, positive adult in a child’s life provides another line of defense against life’s challenges, especially the ones unique to youth today. At Big Brothers Big Sisters, our local matches make up some of our most important volunteer opportunities in Utah. This is why so much time, thought, and donations go into making sure your child is paired with the perfect Big.
Here’s how the process works:
Choose Your Program
First, you can select the kind of program that you want to participate in. These programs offer a variety of volunteer opportunities in Utah for those willing to participate and they will largely determine how your Big will spend time with your child. It can be community-based or school-based and includes options like Big Couples or Big Families.
Talk With Staff
Next, a member of the BBBS staff will meet with you to give you more details about the program. They’ll go over it and whether it will be a good fit for you and your family. Feel free to express any questions or concerns during this meeting and throughout your time participation in the BBBS program.
Complete Application
If it seems like it will be a good fit, then you’re next step towards getting a Big will be filling out the application. Our Customer Relations team will present you with the application and any information you need for filling it out. Then its on to the interview.
Participate in Interview
The interview is a vital step in the process for finding the perfect Big. This is where we get to learn more about you and your child. What we learn from this interview is what will allow us to carefully select a match that will best suit the needs of your child and your family.
Meet Your Big
Once our team has found a Big that we think matches the needs and interests of your child and your family, we will get in touch with you and you be able to meet your Big. This is an exciting day for children, parents, and Bigs. But just because this is the last step doesn’t mean its the end of the process. We will continue to offer our support to ensure that the match is something positive for you and your child.
There are a lot of different volunteer opportunities in Utah, but few are as personalized and impactful as participating with BBBS.
