We design our volunteer opportunities in Utah to give local youth another person in their corner. We’ve seen firsthand the sort of positive impact that even just a few minutes of hanging out with a trusted mentor can have on a child. If you are interested in enrolling your child in Big Brothers Big Sisters, we’ve developed our process so that you can feel confident in your child’s mentor.

Orientation

We’ve provided online materials to help you understand our program and your commitment. The first step is to read through the orientation. The orientation will help you know what to expect for both you and your child.

Training

The second step is to complete our online training for preventing child abuse. At BBBS, child safety is our top priority. Our mentor volunteer opportunities in Utah involve in-depth screening, and, as an extra measure, this training empowers parents in helping us keep their kids safe.

Application

You’ll then fill out our online form. This application asks for some basic information about yourself and your child. It also asks for any information about specific situations, challenges, or needs that your child may have. This information helps us to find the best match for your Little.

Home Interview

Once we receive your application, we will contact you and set up an interview with you and your child in your home. In this interview, you get a chance to expand upon what information you included in the application. Our team will also tell you more about the program and discuss whether it’s a good fit for your child.

Get Matched

We want to match your Little with the perfect Big, so this step can take up to six months or more as we look for volunteers that match the interests and needs of your child. When we think we’ve found a great Big for you and your child, we’ll contact you. You can then decide if you think it’s a good fit.

Meet Your Big

The big day has finally come! Once you agree to a Big we’ve selected, we will set up a time to introduce you and your child. We will review the rules and expectations so that the experience starts off on the right foot. This meeting will typically happen at your home. Remember that if you have any questions or concerns, we offer ongoing support and monitoring through the course of the mentorship.
