Holiday crafts are the perfect way to spend time with kids during the season. From gingerbread houses to homemade cards, there are dozens of ideas for DIY holiday activities that will keep little ones entertained while helping them develop valuable skills. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah, we encourage Bigs and Littles to spend quality time together throughout the year. As part of the mentorship program, time donated by participants taking up volunteer opportunities in Utah can be fun for the kids as they participate in fun holiday craft projects. Below are a few ideas to try out this holiday.

Fun Holiday Craft Ideas

  1. Christmas Snow Globe
The snow globe is a classic holiday item easily made from found objects. Glass bowls can make the globe, so all you need are items you can put inside. Collect pretty holiday-themed figurines to add to the world, or paint some pine cones and use them instead. Children love watching the little figures float around in the water. 2. Coloring Pages
You can download and print holiday characters for coloring pages to color with the kids. You can have them ready on hand in various colors, including pale green, red, and white. To make it fun for the kids, allow them to choose which character they want to color.
  3. Dye Decorations
For older kids, try dyeing holiday-themed party decorations. If you don’t want to worry about the mess, try a craft where you dip the items into a dye solution and let it dry. You can use cloves or other food coloring. There are endless creative dye decorations. You can dye items such as coffee filters to t-shirts.
  4. Plate Puzzles
Create puzzle plates using old plates for a fun party favor that will take little time. This craft is easy because you only have to put the puzzle pieces in circular order on top of the plate and set them aside until they’ve dried completely. For more plate puzzle ideas, click here
