Community-Based
Activities

Community-Based Activities

Our community-based mentoring initiative pairs dedicated volunteers (adults aged 18 and above) with resilient children facing various challenges in our community. These children greatly benefit from the positive influence and support of a mentor in their lives. Upon being matched, we encourage mentors to meet with their mentees two to four times a month. These meetings can involve a wide range of activities, agreed upon by both parties and approved by the parent or guardian. We advocate for low-cost or free one-on-one activities that promote positive outcomes for the child. The minimum commitment requirement for our mentors is one year. Throughout the program, our team provides ongoing support to mentors, mentees and their families.

Qualities of a Mentor:

  • Engage with your student weekly via our iMentor platform.
  • Attend monthly in-person events at our partnered high schools and spend time practicing interpersonal skills with your mentee.
  • Dedicate at least one year to working with your student.
Keys to Success:
  • Dedicated Staff Support: Each mentor receives personalized assistance from a Match Support Specialist.
  • Utilize Technology: The iMentor platform provides curriculum and guided questions for mentors and Mentor2.0 students.

Site-Based Programs:
Elementary Schools

Site-Based Programs: Elementary Schools

In our structured site-based mentoring program, Bigs and Littles meet for an hour to 90 minutes a week per session, typically after school hours at elementary school sites. BBBSU staff oversee the program and provide support during sessions. Matches, consisting of mentors (adults or high school students from freshmen to juniors) and Littles (aged 6 to 11), commit to a minimum of 12 months. Although sessions occur during the academic year, the focus remains on achieving youth development goals for the Little to ensure positive outcomes. (Site-Based Mentoring opportunities only available in Salt Lake, Summit and Washington County as well as Davis County (Centerville only).)
