Benefits of Being a Big

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, a Big is a mentor who helps our mentees (or Littles) face the various obstacles in their life. Being a Big is one of the most incredible volunteer opportunities in Utah. Bigs are crucial roles within the communities of our Littles. Volunteer opportunities bring long-term benefits, especially for those who become Bigs. There are various reasons as to why you should consider becoming Big. After all, becoming a Big at BBBSU is one of the most rewarding experiences one can have.

A Life-Changing Experience

One of the most impactful benefits that come with volunteering at BBBSU is participating in a life-changing experience. Over 1,300 Littles have enrolled in our program! Our Bigs are bound to be matched with a Little who they can create a meaningful experience with. If you’ve always wanted to make a change in someone’s life, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

Personal Connections

Human connection is only as powerful as you allow it to be. By building strong, personal bonds with your Little, you’ll benefit from knowing that you’ve made a difference in someone’s life. They will continue evolving as a person due to your guidance. These connections are some of the most fulfilling experiences anyone could have, in addition to helping improve self-esteem.

Improved Interpersonal Skills

As a mentor, Bigs will be working on their patience, problem-solving, and communication skills. Bigs who participate in the various volunteer opportunities in Utah are more prone to improve their interpersonal skills.

Perspective and Understanding

Through the volunteer program, Bigs can see things through different perspectives, especially when interacting with their Little. These perspectives can help adults gain a new appreciation for the advantages or disadvantages that they’ve had in their personal lives. This can help them fine-tune their approach when it comes to mentoring.
There are various benefits of joining BBBSU and other volunteer opportunities in Utah. Helping our Littles achieve their full potential is the essential task, but our Bigs’ personal growth is always welcome and encouraged!
