A lot of big things happened this year here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah. From our annual events to our successful matches, it’s been amazing. We especially wish we could fit every victory achieved by our Littles and their Bigs into this post, but we’ve decided to honor them and all of our supporters, like those of you who have made donations in Utah, by highlighting this year’s Defender of Potential Award.

In June, Philadelphia Eagles Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McCleod received the first-ever Defender of Potential Award. The dedication that they’ve shown in defending the potential of children in our community is remarkable. It reflects the dedication of volunteers all over America that are working to help empower kids in succeeding. This includes the donations in Utah made by our valued local supporters.

Jenkins and McLeod showed their support through financial support, advocacy and volunteerism. In fact, their support and influence was big enough that it played a role in the Inspire Change campaign that was put into motion early on in the year. The Inspire Change was a campaign that focused on police and community relations and criminal justice reform as well as education and economic advancement. The grant funding has allowed BBBS agencies to begin creating additional mentoring relationships.

We are grateful for all of our volunteers and supporters. We know that your dedication and sacrifices are what is empowering the future of individual children and communities in America. However, for every child that we successfully match, there are still thousands waiting for their turn.

There are many different ways to make donations in Utah. Visit our website or contact us to learn how you and even your organization can improve outcomes for our nation’s children tomorrow.
